GoSense Air+ QuickStart Guide

Welcome to GoSense Air+! This guide helps you quickly set up and use your sensor.

Please refer to the GoSense Air+ User Guide for detailed instructions.

Step 1: Verify the Kit Contents

Ensure your GoSense Air+ kit includes:

  • GoSense Air+ unit

  • 32GB microSD Card & Adapter

  • USB Cable

  • Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) Battery Charger

  • Four (4) AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries

Step 2: Charge and Insert the Batteries

  • Read the battery charger user guide that was supplied in the battery charger box.

  • The batteries may have enough charge to begin using the sensor.

  • Place either two (2) or four (4) batteries into the charger provided. The batteries must be charged in pairs. Single pairs of batteries must be inserted into slots 1 & 2 or 3 & 4.

  • Plug charger into a wall outlet. Red light = charging; Green light = fully charged.

  • To install the batteries in the GoSense Air+ device :

    • Open the battery cover on the bottom of the unit by pressing the slide symbol and then sliding the cover off.

    • Insert two (2) of the AA NiMH batteries that were supplied with the kit. Make sure to insert the batteries so that their positive (+) terminals align with the (+) symbols marked inside the battery compartment.

    • Slide the battery cover back onto the enclosure until it clicks securely into place.

Step 3: Insert the microSD Card

  • Make sure the GoSense Air+ device power switch is turned OFF.

  • Insert the microSD card into the slot with the metal contacts facing upward.

  • Take care to align the card correctly with the slot to prevent damage.

  • Gently push the card into the slot until it clicks securely into place.

Step 4: Connect to a Computer

  • Connect GoSense Air+ to a computer using the provided USB cable. The GoSense Air+ device will power on when connected to the computer.

  • Select Arduino UNO as the board type and select the correct COM port in Arduino IDE.

  • Open the Serial Monitor in Arduino IDE (set to 115200 baud).

  • Status information will be displayed on the OLED display of the GoSense Air+ device.

  • Press the Record Button on the GoSense Air+ device to dismiss the status information.

  • Real-time sensor data should display on the OLED and in the Arduino IDE Serial Monitor.

Step 5: Configure the GoSense Air+ Device (Time & Location)

  • Type m into the Serial Monitor's Message box and press Enter to display the configuration menu.

    • Recommended settings to change:

      • Press 1 to enter location (e.g., classroom1, school, city, etc.).

      • Press 2 to enter latitude/longitude (use Google Maps for accurate coordinates).

      • Press 3 to set date/time (MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS).

  • Configure the other options if desired.

  • Exit the menu following the onscreen instructions.

Step 6: Disconnect from Computer

  • Unplug the USB cable from the GoSense Air+ device .

Step 7: Power on the GoSense Air+ and Record Data

  • Slide the power switch to the ON position.

    • The green power LED near the switch should turn on.

    • The GoSense logo should briefly display on the OLED display followed by status information.

  • Press the Record Button on the GoSense Air+ device to dismiss the status information and see the real-time data display. If the Record Button is pressed too long the sensor may start recording data and the Record Button light will blink red.

  • Press the Record Button on the GoSense Air+ device. A blinking red light means recording is active.

  • Press the Record Button again when ready to to stop recording. Red light off = recording stopped.

Step 8: Retrieve Data

  • Turn the device OFF before removing the microSD card.

  • To eject the microSD card, gently push the card inward until it clicks, then release pressure. The card will spring outward slightly, allowing you to safely remove it.

  • Insert the microSD into your computer. Use the provided adapter if the computer has a standard SD card slot. If the computer does not have a microSD or standard SD card slot you will need a appropriate USB adapter.

  • Open the card folder and copy the data files to the computer. The data files can be opened directly using Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or other spreadsheet programs.

Tips for Best Performance

  • Do not expose unit to rain or prolonged direct sunlight.

  • Keep vents and sensors unobstructed.

  • Charge batteries weekly or as needed based on usage.
